Cryptocoryne Wendtii

Cryptocoryne wendtii is one of the most widely available and frequently cultivated Cryptocoryne species, native to Sri Lanka where it grows in shaded streams and rivers. Leaf color varies considerably — green, brown, and red-brown forms all exist — with coloration further influenced by water chemistry and lighting conditions. Its most valued qualities are broad shade tolerance and the ability to thrive without CO2 supplementation, characteristics that make it reliably suitable across diverse aquarium setups. 'Cryptocoryne melt,' the transient dissolution of leaves during acclimatization, may occur upon introduction but is not fatal — plants regenerate reliably from healthy roots. Performs best in nutrient-rich aquasoil supplemented with root tabs. Planted in groups in the midground, it creates a naturalistic, understated presence that complements both Dutch-style and Nature Aquarium layouts. Suitable for aquarists of all experience levels.
