A succulent with densely packed blue-white stick-like leaves. A blue variety also usable as ground cover.
Blue Chalk Sticks (Curio repens, formerly Senecio serpens) is a mat-forming succulent from the Cape Province of South Africa. Its densely clustered, cylindrical leaves are coated in a distinctive blue-white powdery bloom, creating an eye-catching silvery-blue color that makes it a popular accent plant in mixed succulent arrangements. Plants spread horizontally to 15–30 cm and serve well as ground cover in warm-climate gardens. Full sun intensifies the blue coloration. Extremely drought-tolerant, the plant needs watering only two to three times monthly and is susceptible to rot in wet conditions. Many forms tolerate light frost to approximately 0°C. Stem cuttings root easily, enabling rapid propagation for mass planting.
