Crassula ovata
A hardy succulent popular for its auspicious name. Features thick round leaves and woody trunk.
Crassula ovata, known as Jade Plant, Money Plant, or Lucky Plant, is a succulent native to KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape of South Africa, and Mozambique. It is among the world's most popular houseplants, prized for its attractive glossy green leaves, woody trunk, and cultural associations with prosperity and good fortune. Small pink or white star-shaped flowers appear in winter. Growth is slow but persistent; plants develop into miniature tree forms 60–100 cm tall that are well suited to bonsai training. Exceptionally easy to care for, it tolerates indoor conditions with bright light and infrequent watering of just two to three times monthly. Excess direct sun may cause leaf scorch, though some sun enhances red leaf margins. Cold tolerance extends to approximately 5°C. Propagation by stem or leaf cuttings is very reliable, and well-maintained plants can live for decades.
