A Japanese-bred red rose by Keisei Rose Nursery. Velvety crimson petals true to its name with Japanese elegance. Hybrid Tea with excellent form, popular in competitions. Heat-tolerant, suited to Japanese climate.
Bred by Keisei Rose Nursery (Japan), 'Shinkū' ('Deep Crimson') is a hybrid tea whose velvety crimson blooms embody the intensity its name promises. The classic high-centered form, well-shaped for exhibition, is maintained on strong, upright stems that give it excellent quality as a cut flower as well. Fragrance is a medium to strong Damask. Heat tolerance is particularly good, a significant advantage in Japan's warm, humid summers where many dark red varieties fade. The plant grows to 1–1.5m in an upright habit. Winter pruning to one-third to one-half above a vigorous outward-facing bud is standard practice. As a domestically bred cultivar performing well in Japanese conditions, it holds particular appeal for Japanese rose enthusiasts who favor home-country breeding.
