A Japanese blue-mauve rose by Kawamoto Rose Garden. Grayish pale wisteria-colored blooms evoke a uniquely Japanese aesthetic. Elegant blue-toned fragrance. Delicate petals sensitive to rain, but its ephemeral beauty captivates.
Bred by Kawamoto Rose Garden (Japan), 'Seiryū' ('Blue Dragon') is a hybrid tea rose that captures a distinctly Japanese aesthetic in its unusual coloring: grayish lavender-mauve petals with a slightly dusty quality quite unlike the more vivid hues common in Western breeding. The fragrance carries a blue-toned, Damask character. Delicate petals are sensitive to rain and moisture; growing the plant under eaves or with some rain protection significantly extends the life of individual blooms. Full sun is important for vigorous growth and strong fragrance. At 0.8–1.2m, it is compact enough for most garden settings. Winter pruning to one-third, with early removal of weak shoots to concentrate energy in the strongest canes, is recommended for consistently high bloom quality.
