A seedling of Chrysler Imperial producing enormous deep crimson blooms over 15cm across. Dark blackish-red petals emit strong Damask fragrance. A single bloom commands attention.
Bred by Swim and Weeks (USA) in 1964 from a 'Chrysler Imperial' seedling, 'Oklahoma' takes the qualities of its celebrated parent to an extreme: blooms regularly exceed 15cm in diameter, with a darkness of coloring — deep blackish-crimson — that is among the most intense of any red rose. A single bloom can fill a room with its powerful Damask fragrance. Upright and vigorous, it grows to 1.3–1.6m. Relative heat tolerance means the deep color is maintained better in warm conditions than many dark red roses. Consistent and generous watering, especially in summer, is important to support the plant's vigorous growth. The commanding presence of each bloom makes it a popular choice for exhibition and professional cutting.
