Peperomia argyreia
A cute Peperomia with watermelon rind-like stripe patterns on leaves. Compact and perfect for tabletops.
Peperomia argyreia, the watermelon peperomia, is a perennial in the family Piperaceae, native to northern South America, particularly Brazil. Its rounded, succulent-textured leaves display silver and dark green striping that closely resembles the skin of a watermelon — the source of its popular common name. Compact in size (15–30 cm), it is ideal for display on desks, shelves, or windowsills. The semi-succulent leaves store water, giving the plant moderate drought tolerance; watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry between sessions, with well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Bright indirect light brings out the contrast of the leaf patterns, though it tolerates lower light. Direct sunlight fades the foliage. It propagates easily from leaf or stem cuttings. Its charming, distinctive markings and manageable size make it one of the most beginner-friendly and visually appealing small houseplants.
