Dracaena marginata
A Dracaena with red lines along the edges of slender leaves. Popular for modern interiors with its stylish form.
Dracaena marginata, commonly known as the dragon tree, is an evergreen plant in the family Asparagaceae, native to Madagascar. Its slender, arching stems are topped by rosettes of narrow, strap-like leaves with distinctive red or purple margins, creating a striking, sculptural silhouette. As it matures, the stem branches to form an increasingly characterful, tree-like form. One of the most adaptable houseplants available, it tolerates low light and irregular watering, making it an excellent choice for beginners. Bright indirect light produces the most vibrant foliage; direct sun causes leaf scorch. Water thoroughly once the soil has dried completely, reducing frequency to once or twice a month in winter. Well-draining soil is essential to prevent root rot. Fluoride in tap water can cause leaf-tip browning; using filtered or standing water is advisable. Its slim, upright form integrates naturally into modern interior schemes.
