McCosker's flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus mccoskeri) is a small flasher wrasse of the genus Paracheilinus found from the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific. Males have an orange-to-red body marked with neon-blue lines and perform a flamboyant display known as flashing, in which they spread their fins wide and momentarily intensify their colors during courtship, giving the species its name. This courtship can be observed in the aquarium, and a male's coloration is shown off best when kept in a harem with several females. Peaceful and reef-safe, it is an excellent community species that does not harm corals or invertebrates, but as an active swimmer prone to jumping it requires a tightly fitted lid. Good water quality and ample swimming space are recommended.
