The flame angelfish (Centropyge loriculus) is a dwarf angelfish of the family Pomacanthidae found in the tropical coral reefs of the Pacific and central Pacific Ocean. Its intense scarlet-orange body adorned with vertical black bars is widely regarded as the most striking coloration among pygmy angelfishes. Adults reach approximately 10 cm; a minimum 150-litre tank is recommended. It may nip at coral polyps and invertebrates, requiring caution in reef aquariums. Highly territorial with conspecifics and congeners — solitary keeping is standard. Relatively hardy among dwarf angels, but sensitive to sudden water parameter changes. Specimens from Hawaii and the Marshall Islands are especially prized for their vivid coloration.
