Butterfly Telescope

The Telescope Butterfly (Butterfly Tail Demekin) pairs the Telescope goldfish's large, protruding eyes with the distinctive butterfly-spread tail fin, creating a uniquely striking variety best appreciated from directly above. The tail spreads horizontally and curves upward at the edges, forming an elegant butterfly wing silhouette in top view. Shallow tanks or basins designed for overhead observation are strongly preferred for this breed. Black individuals, sometimes called Black Butterfly Demekin, are among the most popular variants, alongside calico, panda (black-and-white), and sarasa forms. Like all Telescope varieties, the prominent eyes are fragile—sharp aquarium decorations and abrasive substrates must be avoided, and filter intakes require sponge protection. Butterfly Telescope goldfish are docile and slow-swimming, requiring similarly paced tankmates and stable water conditions at 18–25°C.
