關於這種疾病

A condition in which the skin is burned from direct contact with a heater or other heat source, or from excessively high enclosure temperatures. Because reptiles have limited heat sensitivity, serious burns can occur before the animal shows obvious distress.

主要症狀

  • Blisters, redness, or ulcers on the skin
  • Discoloration of the affected skin (whitening or darkening)
  • Pressing the affected area against the substrate or restlessness
  • Loss of appetite and lethargy

主要原因

  • Direct contact with a heater without thermostat control
  • Prolonged contact with an under-tank heater
  • Excessive temperature rise inside the enclosure
  • Inability to escape heat due to illness or weakness

預防(飼養環境與日常照護)

Always connect heaters to a thermostat and check the set temperature regularly. Limit under-tank heaters to no more than one-third of the enclosure floor, ensuring a heat-free refuge is always available. Monitor enclosure temperatures continuously with a thermometer.

A veterinarian will assess the depth and extent of the burn, and may perform debridement of necrotic tissue along with wound cleaning and protective dressing. Treatment to prevent secondary infection and supportive care during recovery may also be provided. Guidance on reviewing heating equipment to prevent recurrence will also be given.
