關於這種疾病

A condition in which the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to reduced vision. It is most common with aging but can also occur in younger dogs due to diabetes or genetic predisposition. Vision can be significantly impaired as the condition progresses.

主要症狀

  • Cloudy or white discoloration of the pupil
  • Changes in behavior in dim light or at night, increased bumping into objects in darkness
  • Increased frequency of bumping into objects during the day
  • Squinting or excessive blinking

主要原因

  • Age-related degeneration of lens proteins (senile cataract)
  • Metabolic changes associated with diabetes mellitus
  • Genetic predisposition common in certain breeds
  • Secondary cataract due to trauma, inflammation, or UV exposure

預防(飼養環境與日常照護)

Regular ophthalmic checkups help with early detection. In dogs with diabetes, proper blood glucose management can help prevent cataract development. Creating an environment that minimizes eye injuries and scheduling regular monitoring from an early age in genetically at-risk breeds are also useful measures.

動物醫院會進行什麼治療?

A veterinarian will evaluate the degree and progression of the cataract through ophthalmic examination. After assessing the impact on vision and checking for complications such as uveitis, a decision will be made regarding regular monitoring or surgical treatment (phacoemulsification for lens removal). Intraocular pressure measurement and retinal function testing may also be performed.
