Pachypodium ambongense
A rare Pachypodium from NW Madagascar with white flowers and thick trunk, difficult to grow.
Pachypodium ambongense is endemic to the Ambongo district of northwestern Madagascar and is exceptionally rare in cultivation. It is prized for its large, white flowers—making it one of the most beautiful flowering pachypodiums—combined with a thickened trunk densely armed with spines. Growth is very slow and plants are difficult to source, commanding high prices. Care follows standard Pachypodium protocol: full direct sun, extremely porous soil, generous growing-season watering, and complete winter drought. CITES protection limits trade to nursery-propagated seedlings. Minimum temperature 10°C. The combination of large white flowers, impressive trunk, and extreme rarity places it at the top tier of white-flowered Pachypodium collecting.
