Essential Equipment

• Tank: 45-60cm standard tank recommended for beginners. More water volume means more stable water quality

• Heater: Tropical fish generally need 25-28°C water temperature. Integrated thermostat models are convenient

Tank Setup and Water Preparation

Corydoras

Bottom-dwelling catfish that amble peacefully around the tank floor. Useful as cleanup crew for leftover food, with a charming rounded form. They school naturally, so keep 3 or more.

White Cloud Mountain Minnow

Extremely hardy and cold-tolerant—the "ultimate beginner species." Can sometimes be kept without a heater due to its tolerance of cooler temperatures.

Platy

Colorful and hardy. High reproductive rate as a livebearer (gives birth to live fry rather than laying eggs). Many varieties including Short Body and Golden.

Water Change Basics

Once keeping begins, change approximately 1/3 of the water 1-2 times weekly. Sudden complete water changes are not recommended. Add dechlorinated water matched to tank temperature. Use a gravel vacuum during changes to remove debris from the substrate.

Feeding Tips

Feed twice daily, only what can be consumed in 2-3 minutes. Overfeeding is the #1 cause of water quality deterioration. A balanced mix of flakes, pellets, and frozen bloodworms maintains good health.
