The Chinese cave gecko (genus Goniurosaurus) is a ground-dwelling gecko native to limestone and granite forest habitats from southern China to northern Vietnam. The genus comprises several species, each with a restricted range. Reaching about 15–20 cm in length, these geckos have functional eyelids and striking coloration of bright orange or yellow bands on a dark ground. They are nocturnal and favor cool, humid rocky areas near water. Unlike leopard geckos, they are intolerant of high heat, preferring a relatively low 18–25°C, so summer temperatures require care. Keepers should maintain humidity and provide hides and a shallow water dish. They are insectivorous, taking crickets and dubia roaches. Somewhat delicate, the species suits intermediate keepers who can manage temperature and humidity.
