Miyuki medaka was fixed and named around 2008 by Mikiyuki Sugawara from Aichi Prefecture. Its defining feature is a brilliant external body light (taigaiko) running along the back in silver-blue-white metallic sheen. Light coverage is graded from 'weak' to 'strong,' 'super,' and 'Tetsukamen' (iron mask / full-body), the latter being most prized. Water temperature management around 28°C during the juvenile stage is said to promote light development. Dark containers best showcase the metallic shimmer. Selective breeding of wide-coverage individuals improves offspring quality. Suitable for hobbyists from beginners to advanced.
