The Valentini puffer (Canthigaster valentini) is a small pufferfish of the genus Canthigaster in the family Tetraodontidae, widely distributed across the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is popular for its charming color pattern of bold black saddles, fine yellow spots, and blue lines around the eyes on a white body, together with its round eyes and endearing swimming style. The species is known to be toxic, and is famous for being mimicked by a harmless filefish (the mimic filefish). Because it tends to nip at corals, anemones, and invertebrates such as snails and shrimp, it is better suited to a fish-and-rock FOWLR setup than a reef tank. It is relatively hardy, but its teeth grow continuously, so offering hard foods such as shelled prey to wear them down is beneficial.
