Frogfishes (genus Antennarius) are a group of uniquely shaped marine fish in the family Antennariidae of the anglerfish order. With stout bodies and superb camouflage coloration, they cling to the seabed or rocks and ambush prey. They wiggle the esca, a lure derived from a modified dorsal spine, to draw prey close, then engulf it by opening the mouth explosively, a feeding display of great interest to aquarists. They move little and can be housed in modest space, but will eat any fish or shrimp small enough to swallow, so tankmates must be chosen with care. Weaning them from live food onto prepared diets is the key to long-term success.
