Meteor Goldfish

The Meteor goldfish is an exceptionally rare variety that completely lacks a tail fin—a unique trait that gives it a distinctive, wobbling swimming motion unlike any other goldfish. This characteristic mutation was selectively developed in China and remains extremely uncommon worldwide. The absence of a caudal fin makes directional control difficult, so Meteors swim slowly in a drifting, rocking pattern that hobbyists find uniquely charming. The body is nearly spherical and most individuals lack a dorsal fin as well. Because the fish cannot maintain orientation in current, water flow must be kept at an absolute minimum. Feeding requires extra care—both floating and sinking foods should be offered to ensure the fish can access its meals. The aquarium should be kept simple and obstacle-free. The Meteor is considered an intermediate-to-advanced fish requiring stable water temperatures of 18–24°C.
