The Seibungyo (Blue/Chinese goldfish) is a Chinese-origin variety distinguished by a calm, bluish-black coloration. Some lineages have large, protruding telescope eyes, but it generally has a rounded body without marked deformations, and the deep, glossy blue-black color itself is the focus of appreciation. Unlike ordinary black (as in a Black Moor), its blue-tinged, subdued tone has a distinctive charm. Blue and black tones in goldfish fade and shift readily, and the coloration can change with growth or environment, so a stable environment is preferable for maintaining the color. Being an unusual color, it is popular among enthusiasts in Japan as well. House it in a tank of 60 liters or more with clean water; being omnivorous, feed mainly prepared foods supplemented with bloodworms or daphnia. Swimming gently, it pairs well with similarly calm varieties.
