Hoya carnosa
A vine plant with thick leaves and waxy star-shaped flowers. Also known as Wax Plant.
Hoya carnosa, the wax plant, is a vining perennial in the family Apocynaceae, native to East Asia and Australia. It is grown both for its thick, glossy, oval leaves and for its exquisite clusters of star-shaped, waxy flowers that emit a sweet, honey-like fragrance — particularly strong in the evening. It prefers bright light and flowers most prolifically in sunny conditions. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry between waterings, and reduce watering significantly in winter. The trailing stems benefit from support or training along a wall or trellis. Crucially, spent flower stalks (spurs) should not be cut, as flowers re-emerge from the same points year after year. An exceptionally long-lived plant, thriving for decades with proper care. Its succulent-like leaves and drought tolerance make it relatively straightforward to maintain.
