Xerosicyos danguyi
Called Silver Dollar Plant, with round succulent coin-like leaves on a cucurbit vine caudex.
Xerosicyos danguyi grows in the dry forests of southwestern Madagascar, belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. Known as the Silver Dollar Plant, it is instantly recognizable by its thick, coin-shaped circular leaves with a waxy, silver-green sheen—exactly like a string of silver dollars. The stems are twining and emerge from a thickened, caudex-like trunk base. It is robust and relatively easy to cultivate, among the more forgiving caudex plants. Full sun to bright partial shade with well-draining soil is appropriate. Moderate watering during the growing season and winter drought are standard. Somewhat frost-sensitive but generally resilient. The appealing coin-shaped leaves and manageable care requirements make it an accessible and popular entry-level caudex plant.
