Adenia Globosa

Adenia globosa is found in arid regions spanning Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, belonging to the Passifloraceae family. True to its name (globosa = spherical), it develops a massive, spherical caudex that can exceed 80 cm in diameter in mature specimens, making it one of the largest caudex-forming species in cultivation. The caudex gives rise to branches armed with sharp thorns, creating a wildly dramatic appearance. Leaves are small and deciduous in dry seasons. All parts of the plant contain potent toxins and must be handled with great care. Growth varies by conditions but is generally slow. Full sun and high temperatures with extremely porous soil are essential. Generous watering during growth and complete drought in winter are standard. It is cold-sensitive and must be kept above 10°C indoors during winter. The sheer scale of the caudex and the wild thorny silhouette make it one of the most impressive and sought-after species among advanced collectors.
