Pachypodium cactipes
Similar to Gracilius but with yellow flowers, relatively available.
Pachypodium cactipes is native to dry, rocky terrain in southern Madagascar and closely resembles P. gracilius in its spherical to pear-shaped caudex form. It is distinguished by generally longer spines and consistently yellow flowers. Often available when P. gracilius specimens are difficult to source, it serves a similar aesthetic role in collections. Growth is slow. Care mirrors that of P. gracilius: full direct sun, extremely porous soil, generous watering during the growing season, and complete winter drought. Minimum temperature 10°C. Its accessible availability and gracilius-like appearance make it a practical entry point into Pachypodium collecting.
