Pachypodium rosulatum
A Pachypodium with vase-shaped caudex and rosette leaves, relatively easy to grow.
Pachypodium rosulatum is found across central to southern Madagascar in dry, rocky terrain. It develops a vase-shaped to pear-shaped caudex in gray-green with slight sheen and short spines, while its leaves emerge in a characteristic rosette arrangement at branch tips. Bright yellow flowers appear in spring to early summer. Among Pachypodium species, it is relatively accessible in the hobby and considered beginner-friendly alongside P. gracilius. Growth is slow but slightly faster than the latter. Full sun and highly porous, well-ventilated soil are essential. Watering should be moderate during the growing season with complete drying between waterings, and the plant should be kept nearly dry in winter after leaf drop. It is sensitive to cold below 10°C and prolonged overcast and wet conditions during the Japanese rainy season require careful management.
