A life-threatening condition in rabbits where the digestive tract nearly stops moving, causing food and gas to accumulate. Symptoms can deteriorate within hours, making prompt action essential.

Marked decrease or complete loss of appetite
Reduced or absent droppings
Bloated abdomen with decreased or absent gut sounds
Hunched posture, reluctance to move, or teeth grinding

Insufficient fiber (hay) intake
Stress or sudden environmental change
Lack of exercise
Secondary gut slowdown due to pain or another illness

Providing ample hay (such as timothy) daily to ensure adequate fiber intake is the single most important preventive measure. Allow sufficient space for regular movement, and maintain a stable, low-stress environment. Monitoring food intake and droppings daily helps detect early changes before the condition becomes serious.
