A Venus Flytrap cultivar with tall upright traps giving a kingly, powerful appearance.
King Henry (Dionaea muscipula 'King Henry') is a Venus flytrap cultivar notable for its strongly erect, upright leaf habit, with traps held high above the substrate rather than spreading flat as many cultivars do. This regal, vertical posture—reminiscent of a monarch holding court—is the origin of its name. The upright growth makes it particularly striking in pot culture and distinguishes it visually from most other cultivars. The snap-trap mechanism is identical to the wild species. Care requirements are the same: nutrient-poor media, tray watering with pure or rainwater, full sun, no fertilizer, and a mandatory cold dormancy at 5–10°C in winter. Adult plants can reach 10–18 cm in diameter, making it one of the larger cultivars.
