A moss branching in triangle like Christmas tree. Creates more three-dimensional scape than regular moss.
Christmas Moss (Vesicularia montagnei) is a moss plant in the family Hypnaceae, native to tropical Asia. It takes its name from its branching growth habit, where branches extend in a triangular, drooping pattern resembling a Christmas tree. Its greater three-dimensionality compared to regular Java Moss creates beautifully natural scenery when attached to driftwood. Hardy enough to grow without CO2 under low to medium lighting, it is also ideal shelter for shrimp and fish fry. Increased lighting promotes denser growth, and CO2 addition further accelerates development. Attachment strength is comparable to Java Moss, and it is cultivated by securing it to driftwood or rocks with fishing line or adhesive. Maintaining its triangular silhouette through moderate trimming maximizes its aquascape impact. Optimal water temperature is 20–28°C.
