Agave weberi
A large agave with relatively few spines. Hardy common species used in gardens and public landscaping.
Agave weberi is a large species native to San Luis Potosí, Jalisco, Sonora, and neighboring states in Mexico. Its broad, blue-green to gray-green leaves are notable for their relatively small and sparse marginal teeth, making it one of the more manageable large agave species to work around. Mature rosettes can reach 80–150 cm tall and 150–200 cm wide. Growth is comparatively fast, building an impressive specimen within a few years under good conditions. The plant is robust, disease-resistant, and tolerant of varied growing conditions—full sun is ideal, but it adapts to less. In the ground, natural rainfall usually suffices; in containers, water when the soil dries. Cold hardiness extends to around -5°C, enabling outdoor year-round cultivation in Japan's warmer regions. Its large scale demands ample space, but the impact it delivers in parks, botanical gardens, and large garden designs makes it a valued landscape species. It is one of the most reliably easy-to-grow large agaves.
