Agave guiengola
A beautiful medium agave with cream-colored edges. Rare species from limestone areas of Oaxaca.
Agave guiengola is a medium-sized species native to limestone hills in Oaxaca, Mexico. Its most attractive feature is the distinctive cream to pale yellow marginal variegation that borders each broad, blue-green leaf, creating an elegant two-tone effect. Fine marginal teeth line the leaf edges. Mature rosettes reach around 40–70 cm tall. It is a rare species with limited availability, often commanding premium prices when it does appear in cultivation. Growth is slow. Full sun is preferred, and excellent drainage is critical—this species is particularly sensitive to excess moisture. Water sparingly, waiting for the soil to fully dry before rewatering, and reduce to about once a month in winter. Cold hardiness is around 5°C; protect from frost. As a limestone native, it may benefit from slightly alkaline soil amendments. Its beautiful variegated margins and genuine scarcity make it one of the more treasured finds for dedicated agave collectors.
