Graptopetalum paraguayense
A beautiful succulent with calm silver-gray rosettes. Very hardy and easy to propagate.
Graptopetalum paraguayense (Ghost Plant) is a succulent from Tamaulipas state, Mexico, forming rosettes of silvery-grey to pale pinkish leaves that develop warm pink to orange tones in cool weather and bright light. Rosettes reach 10–15 cm across and are borne on elongating stems, which readily develop a shrubby habit. The species is exceptionally adaptable, tolerating full sun to partial shade and thriving outdoors in mild climates. Drought tolerance is outstanding; watering two to three times monthly is adequate, and many plants survive periods of neglect with minimal harm. Cold hardiness extends to approximately −5°C. Leaf propagation is virtually effortless—fallen leaves naturally root where they land. These qualities make G. paraguayense one of the best introductory succulents, and it has been popular in Japanese gardens for generations.
