The Shimura Transparent Scale is a goldfish known for an especially pronounced nacreous (transparent) scale trait, its name said to derive from a breeder associated with its development. Nacreous scales lack the reflective silver guanine layer of ordinary goldfish scales, so the body surface appears translucent and the interior shows faintly through. The Shimura strain is noted for particularly high transparency, with a distinctive beauty in the soft coloration seen through its clear scales. Nacreous individuals tend toward pale coloring, and drawing out their delicate, individual hues is part of the appreciation. Uncommon in the trade, it is regarded as a rare variety for enthusiasts. House it in a tank of 60 liters or more with clean water; being omnivorous, feed mainly prepared foods supplemented with bloodworms or daphnia. Calm lighting and stable water show off the soft coloration unique to nacreous scales.
