琉金是日本代表性金鱼品种之一，据说18世纪左右经琉球（现在的冲绳）从中国传入日本，其名称"琉金"由此而来。最大特点是背部高高隆起（肩驼峰）和深邃圆润的体型，从侧面看轮廓优美，作为观赏鱼非常受欢迎。尾鳍长而优雅地展开，有三尾、四尾、樱尾等多种。体色以红、白、更纱（红白）为主，但也有花纹三色（Calico）的个体流通。性格较为活跃，食欲旺盛，与温和品种混养时需注意争食。饲养基础是45厘米以上的水槽配置较弱水流的过滤器，适应pH 6.5～7.5的宽泛水质，是强健品种。背部隆起越大品质越高，许多个体经过品评会导向的改良。存在翻转病风险，饲料应选择易消化的，避免过度投喂。水温适应范围广（5～30℃），对初学者来说相对容易饲养。
