Anthurium andraeanum
A tropical plant with long-lasting heart-shaped spathes (the colorful flower-like part). Available in red, pink, white and green. Loves warm, humid indoor conditions.
Anthurium andraeanum, commonly known as the flamingo flower, laceleaf, or tailflower, is a tropical perennial in the family Araceae, native to Colombia and Ecuador. It is prized for its waxy, heart-shaped spathes — technically modified leaves (bracts) rather than petals — which come in red, pink, white, purple, and bicolour forms and remain ornamental for two to three months. The actual flowers are tiny, arranged along the finger-like spadix at the centre of the spathe. As a tropical plant it prefers warm temperatures (ideally 22–28°C), bright indirect light, and high humidity (above 60%). Water when the soil surface dries; consistent moisture and good humidity are key to sustained flowering. Sensitive to temperatures below 15°C. All parts of the plant contain calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic to humans and pets; placement should be considered accordingly. One of the most rewarding houseplants for combining striking flowers with elegant, year-round foliage.
