Cephalopentandra Ecirrhosa

Cephalopentandra ecirrhosa grows in dry areas across East Africa including Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. A large, gray-white caudex exposed above the soil creates an impressive presence that becomes more dramatic as the plant matures. Twining stems with cucurbit-type leaves are produced during growth. As indicated by its name (ecirrhosa = without tendrils), it lacks the climbing tendrils typical of many cucurbits. Growth is relatively fast. Full sun to bright partial shade with well-draining soil is appropriate. Generous watering during the growing season and complete winter drought are standard. Somewhat frost-sensitive. The imposing gray-white caudex makes it one of the most visually striking of the East African cucurbit caudex plants.
