A popular Venus Flytrap cultivar that turns deep red, more vivid under strong light.
Red Dragon (Dionaea muscipula 'Red Dragon') is one of the most widely cultivated red-pigmented cultivars of the Venus flytrap. Under strong direct sunlight, the entire plant—including traps, petioles, and even the trap interior—develops a deep crimson coloration that inspired its name. Like the wild-type species, it requires nutrient-poor, acidic media (sphagnum or peat-perlite), tray watering with pure or rainwater, and strong sunlight to maintain its vivid red color; insufficient light causes the plant to revert to greenish tones. A mandatory winter dormancy at 5–10°C is essential. Adult plants typically reach 5–10 cm in diameter. The cultivar's striking appearance makes it a perennial favorite among carnivorous plant collectors.
