The name derives from 'Shojo,' a mythical red-faced spirit in Japanese performing arts, referencing the vivid red coloration. As the season progresses, the leaves transition from deep scarlet through orange to green in summer, then return to warm autumn colors before leaf drop. This extraordinary seasonal color cycle — spring red, summer green, autumn crimson — makes it one of the most dramatically beautiful bonsai cultivars available.
