The star finch (Bathilda ruficauda) is a small estrildid finch native to grassland and woodland near water in northern Australia. Olive-green with a red face and white star-like spots on the flanks, it is gentle and easy to keep, doing well in mixed aviaries. Some wild populations have declined due to habitat change.
