Professional succulent propagation: leaf cutting, beheading, and division tips.
Professional techniques for efficiently propagating succulents.
Tips for Improving Leaf Cutting Success
- **How to remove leaves**: Rock gently side to side for a clean pull. Breaking partway drastically reduces success
- **Drying**: Let cut surfaces dry for 1-2 days before placing on soil
- **Soil**: Vermiculite alone or fine-grain akadama works best for rooting
- **Watering**: No water until roots appear. After rooting, light misting
- **Environment**: Bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun. 20-25°C is optimal
- **Timing**: Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) have the highest success rates
Stem Cutting Technique
1. Make a clean cut with a sterile blade
2. Top section: Dry cut surface 2-3 days, insert in soil, start watering after 2 weeks
3. Bottom section: Continue care as-is. Multiple offsets will emerge around the cut
4. Separate offsets when they reach 2-3cm and pot independently
