Tangs are prized for their vivid colors and active swimming, but their strong territorial instincts and need for extensive swimming space make adequate tank sizing an absolute requirement.

Minimum Tank Sizes by Species

Multi-Tang Strategies

• Same species multiples: Generally not recommended unless 180cm+ tanks
• Mix different body shapes (Yellow Tang + Blue Tang works well)
• Avoid same-genus combinations (Yellow Tang + Purple Tang = intense fighting)

Aggression Reduction

• Simultaneous introduction, rearrange rockwork before adding, constant nori availability, adequate hiding spots

If Fighting Occurs

Temporarily divide with acrylic sheet, isolate aggressor for several days, rearrange rockwork before reintroduction.
