Hyakushiki medaka is a luxurious improved variety combining golden body color with full-body lame sparkle. Its name is said to derive from the gold-colored mobile suit 'Hyaku Shiki' from the anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, reflecting its overwhelmingly brilliant golden appearance. Shallow top-viewing bowls allow sunlight to reflect off the golden body and lame for a dazzling display. Dark containers emphasize the gold contrast. Hardy in 5–30°C, neutral to slightly alkaline water. Selective breeding maintains and improves lame density and golden coloration. Popular among both anime fans and medaka enthusiasts.
