Black lame medaka is a mystical improved variety with glittering iridophore lame on an Orochi-lineage jet-black body, like stars twinkling in a night sky. The contrast between jet-black body and sparkling lame is its greatest attraction — the achromatic black background makes the lame shine all the more intensely. Dark containers best showcase both jet-black body and lame sparkle together. Sunlight and LED lighting produce the most varied lame shimmer. Inherits Orochi's lack of background adaptation, maintaining black in white containers too. Hardy in 5–30°C, neutral to slightly alkaline water. Selective breeding of densely lame-covered individuals improves lame quality. A consistent bestseller alongside Black Diamond among black lame medaka.
