Madame Alfred Carriere

Bred by Schwartz (France) in 1879, 'Madame Alfred Carrière' is a Noisette climber that remains one of the most indispensable old roses more than 140 years after its introduction. Its large, loosely double blooms of white to blush-pink are produced in repeated flushes from spring through autumn, carrying a delicate, sweet fragrance. The defining quality that keeps this rose irreplaceable is its ability to flower in partial shade and on north-facing walls — a capability almost unique among climbing roses of its size. Canes extend 4–6m, making it ideal for covering difficult aspects, shaded fences, and sheltered entrance ways. Cold hardiness is excellent. The soft, old-world character of its blooms brings a Victorian elegance to classical garden designs.
