The Pomeranian is a spitz-type dog breed named after the Pomerania region in north-west Poland and north-east Germany in Central Europe. The breed descended from larger Spitz-type dogs and was further developed as a companion breed during the 19th century, when Queen Victoria of England kept several Pomeranians and is credited with popularising a smaller variety of the breed. Pomeranians are known for their thick double coat, foxy face, and lively temperament. They are alert, curious, and devoted to their families. Despite their small size, they have a bold personality and make effective watchdogs. The breed is recognized in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
