Carpinus turczaninowii, commonly known as Korean hornbeam, is a deciduous tree native to the Korean Peninsula, eastern China, and parts of Japan. It belongs to the same family as the Japanese hornbeam (Carpinus japonica) and shares similar ornamental qualities: small, well-textured leaves, attractive fine branching, and appealing autumn color in shades of brown and gold. In bonsai, Korean hornbeam is valued for its naturally compact growth habit and the ease with which it can be shaped into the broom style (hokidachi) or other refined forms. The smooth gray bark develops muscular ridges with age, adding to the overall character of mature specimens.
