Hercules Lichyi Beetle

Dynastes hercules lichyi is a subspecies of the Hercules beetle native to the highlands of Colombia and Ecuador, and is the most commonly available and popular Hercules beetle subspecies in the hobby. Males reach 50–160 mm in total length, with notably straight, elongated thoracic horns. Body coloration is yellowish-green to black with dark spots, shifting with humidity like other Hercules subspecies. Captive temperature should be maintained at 20–25°C; temperatures above 28°C are harmful. A large enclosure with fermented substrate packed to at least 20 cm depth is required. Females lay 30–50 eggs per clutch in the substrate; larvae develop over approximately 12–24 months. Adults eat beetle jelly or banana and live 3–10 months. More accessible in price than the nominate Guadeloupe subspecies while still producing impressive large specimens, D. h. lichyi is the most widely chosen Hercules beetle subspecies among collectors worldwide.
