Massangeana variety known as Fortune Plant. Sword-shaped leaves radiate outward. Hardy and popular as gifts.
Dracaena is a large genus of over 200 species of trees and shrubs in the family Asparagaceae, native to tropical Africa and Asia. One of the most widely cultivated houseplants in the world, the genus is prized for its sword-shaped leaves in rich greens, often with yellow, white, or red striping. Growth is slow to moderate, typically reaching 0.3–2 m indoors. Dracaenas tolerate a wide range of lighting conditions — from bright indirect light to partial shade — making them highly adaptable. They prefer to dry out slightly between waterings; overwatering is the most common mistake. Fluoride in tap water can cause leaf-tip browning; filtered or standing water is preferable. Maintain temperatures above 15°C and keep away from cold draughts. Recognised in NASA's Clean Air Study for removing indoor pollutants, dracaenas are a reliable choice for beginners and experienced growers alike.
