The Tonkinese is a breed developed by crossing Siamese and Burmese cats, combining traits of both parent breeds. The breed was developed primarily in Canada by breeder Margaret Conroy in the 1960s. Tonkinese cats have a medium-sized, muscular body intermediate between the Siamese and Burmese in build. Their short, silky coat comes in three pattern types: pointed, mink, and solid. Many have distinctive aqua-colored eyes. In temperament, they are social and affectionate, less vocal than Siamese but more active than Burmese, and known for their intelligence and playfulness.
