Beautiful two-tone rabbit with dark upper body and tan underside. Active and energetic medium-sized breed.
The Tan rabbit is a medium-sized breed developed in England in the 1880s, likely originating from crosses between wild rabbits and domestic black-and-tan Dutch rabbits. Adults measure 30–40 cm and weigh 1.8–2.7 kg. Their most distinctive feature is their bicolor coat: the top color (black, blue, chocolate, or lilac) contrasts sharply with a rich, bright tan (orange-yellow) on the belly, flanks, inside of ears, eye circles, jaw, and nostrils. Tan rabbits are known for their exceptionally energetic and agile nature, more active and fast-moving than most domestic breeds. They are highly regarded in the show fancy for their athletic build and vivid coloration. Their high activity level demands a spacious enclosure (minimum 70 cm width) or exercise area, with generous daily free-roaming time. Diet consists of unlimited hay, pellets, and fresh vegetables. Common health concerns include malocclusion, GI stasis, and stress from insufficient exercise. Lifespan is 8–10 years.
